Contracts and Flowers

Lover and I had a big date Saturday. He showed up with flowers:

IMG_1519It’s not every date that I get flowers, but I love to. In my novels, the hero often gives flowers when he’s wooing the heroine. I know red roses are the standard, but there are so many other flowers in the world besides red roses.

On our date, the movie Fifty Shades of Grey was mentioned. Neither one of us has seen it, and it was only jokingly referred to. Pain is not my kink and I’m a little too alpha to be tied up, but there is no denying women have gone gaga over it.

What’s most interesting to me is as far as I can tell mostly vanilla women are into Fifty Shades. People of the BDSM culture not so much. Does this mean that vanilla women everywhere are asking their husbands/boyfriends to put them under contract? Or are they just getting turned on by the book, having great vanilla sex with their husbands/boyfriends and taking it no further?

On my date with Lover, the questions in my head went much further. Why do contracts have to be about whips and canes? I have done some research into sex contracts and found that an important aspect of the contract that’s often lost in pop culture is the use of the contract to explore each others desires. I find men to be very straight forward about what they want. If they desire a specific sex act or anything really from their partner, they just come out and ask.

But women want their partners to be mind readers. We have this notion that if a man really loves us, they’ll do something for us without us telling them to. Sometimes that happens, but a lot of times not. Wouldn’t a contract be a great way for a woman to let her lover know exactly what she wanted?

I don’t want to force Lover on his knees and whip him. But it would be fun if in the contract he had to show up with a bouquet of gladiolas, a mocha from Starbucks and massage my feet before we go out while I drink the mocha.

So I’ve put Lover under contract for three dates. Of course, that means I’ll be under contract for hime for three dates. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’ll call these blogs The Vanilla Contract.

What would be in your Vanilla contract? Please let me know in the comments below!

Lover Returns

IMG_1499

I love Mondays. I know that’s not normal. But Mondays are the start of a week without mistakes.

Usually.

This morning I woke up to Lover saying, “You have a continuity error in chapter six.”

This was not Finn, the sweet date I had at the Barley Room.

This was THE Lover. The one I had when I started this blog. Think of him to me as Mr. Big was to Carrie Bradshaw.

The problem with dating Alpha Males in real life instead of leaving them to the romance books is they’re always off doing their Alpha Male things. I hand waved over why I’ve been absent from the blog, but mostly it revolved around Lover. Christmas and New Years come like storms to relationships with all the expectations and compromising…especially between two people who are dominant rather than submissive.

Lover rode out with the storm.

I didn’t feel like whining on my blog and I needed to get Corporate Fire publishing ready, so I dove into the story rather than worry about the blog.

Lover is not on Twitter. It’s noise to him. So he says he didn’t read anything of those other dates. I’m not so sure. I think what brought him back was naming Finn on my blog. Even my friends were commenting on me giving someone a name.

I spent the weekend with Lover and it was wonderful. Even waking up to a mistake first thing Monday morning. He takes my work seriously and always helps me with it. I haven’t asked how long he’ll be here this time. It’s a tricky question for an Alpha Male, and tricky for an Alpha Female to time it just right.

I hope your Monday started as great as mine.

I’m Back!

It’s been awhile! I’ve tweeted a few times, but romance both written and real life has kept me away from my blog.

So let’s catch you up!

Favorite Date: The Barley Room. My date was so charming, I don’t even remember what drink I ordered that night. I do remember the chips and salsa which were awesome. He’s definitely a repeat…maybe I should give him a name for the blog: Finn.

New Diet: I’m doing the Dash Diet which is a low carb, heart healthy kinda diet. So far so good, but I do miss my cereal.

New place to find me: I’m on Pinterest!!! My publicist Samantha Stockings has done a bang up job getting me started there. Please check it out! https://www.pinterest.com/evelynaster/

New release coming soon: Corporate Fire! It’s scheduled for April 17. I’ll keep you posted about the cover reveal…it’s smoking hot.

That’s it for now. I’ll start posting regularly on Mondays again. I hope to see you here!

XOXOXOXOXX

Publishing Update

Wow! Masked Hearts is getting Great reviews on Amazon! Five 5 star reviews in the US and one 5 star review in Canada. One hundred percent five stars! One reviewer says it’s a great fall book, so give it a try even if we’re past Halloween. Reading the reviews gets me excited about the next one, which I’m working on now.

The next Holiday Cafe Book will be Thanksgiving, coming out next fall. It’s an intense love story between an Afghanistan veteran and a bank manager. They meet on the internet and, of course, come together at the Holiday Cafe. I’m loving writing it.

But….my next book and new series just returned from the first read through by my editor! Corporate Fire will be released in January. I’m working on her suggestions, and I’m so happy it doesn’t need a major rewrite. We’re also looking at cover artists and thinking about designs.

So lot’s of work happening over here. I can’t wait to share my stories with you!

Becoming a Romance Heroine: Exercise, Epic Fail

Back in October, I decided that exercise, particularly Yoga, was what I needed next in my journey to become a Romance Heroine. The first week was fantastic. I had more energy, and I lost two pounds. But then I was promoting my book. I quit exercising. I was back to being like this Internet meme:

Establishing an exercise routine is freaking hard. It takes like a month to make it a habit. Before that month kicks in, anything will distract me: a new book to read, a new book to write, mochas to drink, men to drool over, clever dates to think up. Then the rationalizing kicks in: I heard thinking is the only way to burn carbohydrates so reading and writing count as exercise, I need that mocha to keep my mind sharp so I can keep reading and writing and burning off carbohydrates, everyone says sex is a great exercise, so really a date should count.

A month and a half later after all this rationalizing, I gained back the two pounds plus three more.

Soooo, I’m starting exercising again. The goal is to exercise five times a week. I got three in last week, but I did just decide this Thursday. I took yesterday off, but I spent an hour really cleaning the kitchen so that should count right?

Follow me on twitter @evelynaster to see how I’m doing and hear my newest rationalizations for what should count as exercise!

Romance Costumes

Halloween Costumes are of course a part of my novel Masked Hearts, but I don’t want to give that part away so I won’t be posting an excerpt 🙂

Halloween is my lover’s favorite holiday, so yes, I took advantage of him this year. I tend to the prettier costumes, but this year he suggested I go as medusa, and it was hard to argue with the awesome headpiece he made:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACasting a creepy shadow, Medusa hunts for her pray.

Halloween Spider Web and Chocolate Winners!

MaskedHearts

In my new release, Masked Hearts, Mark creates a gothic display around his expansive home. Part of the decoration is a giant spider web that brings about a turning point in the relationship.

Her tires crunched the rocks into the dirt as she drove up the mountain road. A light flashed on the hill above her, and she caught a glimpse of a ghost blowing on one of his balconies. As she came around the final curve, she slowed her car and gawked until she pulled into the driveway.

Shutters with missing slats hung loose on nails where she didn’t remember there being any shutters to begin with. Enormous stuffed crows perched on the roof and the chimney. A few looked like they were flying down, and she couldn’t see any wires holding them up. The two balconies lit up alternately, showing a ghost and a skeleton. Gargoyles guarded each balcony. An enormous spiderweb hung between the patio and the middle balcony, lit by a black light. In the center of the web was a stuffed spider hanging down. Amongst the tangles of the web were cocoons with arms and legs sticking out as if the spider had caught some stray trick-or-treaters.

The spider web in the story was inspired by the one my lover puts up every year. This year I helped too, since I wanted to feature it on the blog 🙂
