With the upcoming release of the final episode of The Beautician and the Billionaire, I’ve gone back and cleaned up some of the continuity errors that happen when writing off the cuff. The books in my Holiday Cafe series see a few drafts before they reach my editor, and then they see some more drafts after the first pass by Julie. But I didn’t have Episode 9 done before I started posting Episode 1. I didn’t even have Episode 2 done!

I’ve really enjoyed writing something so spontaneous. It’s been fun to add scenes based on reader reaction. That happened early on and then more recently with Episode 8. When I do another serial like this, I hope for more reader comments. That’s a big part of what makes writing a serial fun.

But I definitely had to make adjustments. For example, Raul is merely a driver in Episode 1. As the story progressed, I realized he needed to be more like a personal assistant because he had a much bigger role to play than originally planned. So I’ve gone in and changed all of Conor’s references to him to assistant rather than just driver.

Another error I had was when Conor first spoke to Becca. Originally he hadn’t spoken to her in three years, but as the story developed, I realized she would’ve been tormenting him all those years. So that’s changed.

I’m slowly getting the updated versions out to the public. I uploaded Episode 1 to Amazon yesterday, but they seem particularly slow and haven’t gotten the title updated. However, All Romance and Smashwords have the new versions with the new cover. If you’re new to my blog, the first Episode is free! Please check it out!

Charisse eventually drifted into a shallow sleep where she could still sense Conor’s body behind her and his hand on her belly. When she woke up again, she decided she’d take a shower and surprise him with breakfast. Continue reading

Charisse woke up ready to conquer the day, except it was still night. The bedroom was dark, and stars twinkled through the window. The comforter over her kept her warm, which was good since the tip of her nose was cold. She snuggled down into her pillow—the first chilly night of fall. Continue reading

Conor gently shook Charisse’s shoulder. The only light in the car was from the back porch light on the cottage. Raul had turned it on when he went in to get it ready.

“Charisse,” he whispered when she didn’t wake up. He shook her again and whispered, “My beauty, we’re home.” Continue reading

The hum of the tires speeding over the road and the darkness broken only by passing headlights soothed Conor’s nerves as they headed back to The Hamptons. He stroked Charisse’s hair back out of her face, grateful to have her with him. She’d fallen asleep with her head in his lap a few miles out of the city. Now, they were a few miles from his mansion. Continue reading

The Beautician and the Billionaire Episode 8

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend. When we last left the story, Josh had been trying to contact Charisse and actually showed up at the salon while she was in The Hamptons with Conor. Episode 8 opens the next day in New York City with Charisse and Marie catching up at lunch. Enjoy!

Charisse took a long sip of her coffee, trying to keep her attention focused on Marie. She’d spent a grueling morning spilling details of her relationship with Josh to Conor and his lawyer. She hadn’t wanted anyone to know about some of those things, especially a current boyfriend. Mortifying was the word for the morning. Continue reading

With the contract behind them, Charisse is determined to show Conor how much she cares about him. But her constant and mysterious fatigue threatens to keep her away from the party he’s been guilted into giving for his dead wife’s sister. After fainting just before the party, Charisse makes her way downstairs only to be accosted by someone from her past who she never wanted to see again.

Excerpt:

Charisse rested her hand on his cheek, admiring the straight nose and defined jaw line. She still hadn’t returned his “I love you.” Part of her wished she could wake him up and tell him now, while the other part still wanted to wait. It was too soon after the contract, too soon after churning up the past with Josh and too close to the party for Becca. She wanted to give her emotions for him time to grow and bloom. At least he hadn’t brought up her hesitation.

Keeping her hand on his cheek, she slid closer to him and brushed her lips against his.

“Mmmm,” he said without waking up.

She wished she hadn’t been so tired when they arrived. She’d wanted to end the day by making love to him, but she’d crashed out immediately after changing into a knit cami and shorts set she’d found in her suitcase.

Lifting her head slightly off the bed, she saw that it was four in the morning. He probably wouldn’t want to be woken up right now. Besides, she’d never initiated a seduction. Her attempt would most likely be laughable. Still, her core craved physical intimacy in a way she’d never experienced before. She couldn’t tell him she loved him, but she wanted him to know she desired him and cared for him more than any other man.

She pressed her lips against his, gently but harder than a moment ago.

“Mmmm,” he said again. “That’s the second time you’ve kissed me. Do it again, and I’ll think you want to make love.”
