The Real Neat Blogger Award

Happy Fourth! To celebrate, my latest release Shifting Into Love is only $0.50 at All Romance. I feel it’s this close to being a best seller there. Please go buy it! Remember, I’m NOT posting the whole story on my blog.

Also, be sure to follow me and enter my giveaway!

I received the Real Neat Blogger Award! It’s my first blog award ever, so I’m very happy.

The Rules:

    • Thank and link the blogger that nominated you.
    • Answer the 7 questions that the nomination has provided you.
    • Create 7 questions for your nominees.
    • Nominate 7 other bloggers.
    • Bend said rules

Thank you to Susan Voss at Dab of Darkness for nominating me! I’m a private person so answering these questions was hard. I hope you enjoy them.

If you could be an extra on a period piece (Outlander, Spartacus, etc.) what would it be and what would you be doing? I’d like to be on The Black Adder series as a maid who had some sort of running gag throughout all of the time periods the series covers. I’m not picky about the running gag…a one liner, tripping or some other physical comedy ant an important moment, and then I disappear 🙂

What makes you cringe? When I’m reading a book and the same word is typed wrong over and over. I’m currently reading a popular indie author and she refuses to capitalize Scotch when referring to Scotch whiskey.

What’s the most interesting gross fact you know? I try to avoid gross stuff so my fact is pretty boring: Flies frequently vomit when they land.

It’s time for you to host the book club. Who do you invite (living, dead, fictional, real)? And what 3 books will you be discussing? Living: My editor, my publicist and Holly Jennings. Dead: Dauphne du Maurier, Margaret Mitchell, Arthur C. Clarke. Three books: Arena by Holly Jennings, Twilight by Stephanie Meyers and Masked Hearts by me. I know Holly Jennings through the internet and think it would be really cool to discuss Arena with her. Having Arthur C. Clarke there would be interesting to hear his thoughts not only on her book, but also on where the genre of science fiction is going. Daphne du Maurier is one of my favorite authors. I would love to have a discussion with her about style. It would be really interesting to listen to du Maurier and Mitchell talk about Twilight —what’s derivative of their own works, what’s interesting, what do they like about, the plotting and what doesn’t work at all. And then how could I resist hearing opinions about my own book 🙂

If you had to choose someone to rescue you from the jaws of certain death would it be a superhero, supernatural creature, or a space alien? It would be a dragon who could shape shift into a person. I’m quite fond of dragons 🙂

If you could, what book/movie/TV series would you like to experience for the first time all over again and why? I wish I could read again without my writer filter being on. When I read now, I’m looking for style, plotting, character growth, etc. I get easily annoyed with authors I think aren’t working hard enough on their craft. I wish I could just sit back and let it go.

If everyone came with warning labels, what would yours say? I’m not upset; I’m just thinking about a story.” I must frown when I’m in deep thought because I often get asked “Are you okay?” when I’m trying to plot out a story. I also stare off into space which is not as socially acceptable as staring at a computer screen or piece of paper so I think it’s disconcerting.

My nominations: Holly Jennings, Stacey is Sassy, Romance Novels for the Beach, Inspector Gorgeous, All Romance Reads, Lynn Thayler, Love Serially.

My questions:

What coffee/espresso drink best describes you?

If you were getting ready for a hot date and ran out of time, would you focus more on hair or nails?

Who’s your favorite book boyfriend?

Who’s your favorite hero type: billionaire, cop, cowboy, dragon, elf…etc?

What book do you love that everyone hates or what book do you hate that everyone loves?

Are you excited about the Gilmore Girls reunion or are you more like “Gilmore who?”

Share your favorite recipe.

Thanks again Susan for the shout out!

Veteran Romances

I hope my readers in the states are looking forward to a long weekend! It’s overcast here in Albuquerque, which I love, and I’m sipping some iced coffee with toffee nut at Michael Thomas Coffee Roasters. It’s the first Friday of the month, and I’m very tempted to head over for Fractal Fridays at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History as featured in Veteran Hearts. Do you think I’d meet someone like Kyle?

If you’re looking to celebrate Independence Day by reading some hot veteran romances, please read mine: Veteran Hearts and Thankful Hearts.

For something short with several sex scenes, please read Veteran Hearts:

Excerpt:

To her surprise, he turned off the truck and killed the lights. Maybe he was coming in after all. He turned sideways to look at her and said, “I’d love to come in, but that might be too fast for me. I know in the book we read they hit the bed after the first hello, but even after two months of knowing you, it’s hard for me to get closer.”

He had his hand on the console between them, and she placed hers on top. “You could just come in for dinner. I swear I won’t molest you.”

His gaze softened though it was hard to see in the shadows. “Maybe I’ll just walk you up to the door, old fashioned like.”

“I’d like that.”

She withdrew her hand, sorry he wouldn’t be staying but still feeling like they’d taken a big step in their relationship. When she stepped out of the truck, he was already out and around, ready to take her hand as she stepped down. Her soul thrilled when he laced his fingers between hers after he closed the door.

She opened the tall wooden gate and smiled at the gurgling of the fountain in the corner of her patio. She’d have to turn it off soon before the first freeze, but she was glad it was on tonight.

“Nice courtyard,” he said as he entered.

She shut the gate, cutting off the view of the rest of the neighborhood. She’d forgotten to turn the porch light on when she left, which allowed the moonlight to cast a romantic glow.

When they arrived at the door, she turned and faced him, not knowing if he wanted to stay and talk or if he’d leave right away. She had a wrought-iron bench over to the side by the fountain and a table with two chairs on the other side. It’d be more comfortable inside.

She realized he was staring at her with a mix of affection and regret on his face. It made her want to stand on her toes to kiss him, but she was sure she’d scare him away if she tried that.
Much to her astonishment, he slipped his hand beneath the hair on the back of her neck, leaned down and brushed his lips against hers.

Heaven.

Goosebumps erupted all over her body. She’d imagined the first kiss so many times that she couldn’t believe it was better than all her scenarios.

He pulled back just enough to speak. “I’m sorry I’m so crazy. I really like you, and it scares the shit out of me—not the liking part but the possibility of losing you in the future. I lost a lot of friends at war.”

It was weird to feel relief at his statement, but at least now she knew what was wrong. Before it’d been a vague generalization of being a veteran. Now she knew something of the cause.

Excerpt:

She broke the silence and asked, “Did you miss home while you were away, or did you try not to think about it?”

He looked at her profile as she stared out at the city. It was probably an innocent question to her, but it brought up all of his theories and fears about PTSD that he hadn’t talked to anyone about. He wasn’t planning on talking about it ever, but his words betrayed him.

“I thought about home every damn day. I wanted to keep in mind what I was fighting for to distance myself from the violence I was a part of. Soldiers come home and blow up when they hear people complaining at the mall about a dress that doesn’t fit or the fucking barista misspelling their name on a cup of coffee, but that’s why we’re fighting. So someone’s misspelled name is the worst part of their fucking day. I didn’t want to come home and be mad about it.”

Her breath hitched, and in one smooth move, she placed her hand behind his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. At first he stood still, unable to register what was happening. But her lips warmed his and brought movement to his body. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her right up against his chest. Their lips parted, and she slipped her tongue inside his mouth. He loved her assertiveness—he didn’t have to guess what she wanted. But then he tensed. She might discover his gun.

He broke off the kiss and said, “That wasn’t a line. It’s really how I feel.”

She smiled and said, “I know. Was I overly appreciative of your philosophy?” She drew her hands off his neck and tried to step back, but he held her fast.

“No, I just don’t want you to think I’m full of shit.” His face burned when he spoke. He didn’t know why it was so important what she thought of him. He hadn’t been considering her as a girlfriend; at least he didn’t think he had.

The Beautician and the Billionaire Episode 8: The Party

BB8four

With the contract behind them, Charisse is determined to show Conor how much she cares about him. But her constant and mysterious fatigue threatens to keep her away from the party he’s been guilted into giving for his dead wife’s sister. After fainting just before the party, Charisse makes her way downstairs only to be accosted by someone from her past who she never wanted to see again.

Excerpt:

Charisse rested her hand on his cheek, admiring the straight nose and defined jaw line. She still hadn’t returned his “I love you.” Part of her wished she could wake him up and tell him now, while the other part still wanted to wait. It was too soon after the contract, too soon after churning up the past with Josh and too close to the party for Becca. She wanted to give her emotions for him time to grow and bloom. At least he hadn’t brought up her hesitation.

Keeping her hand on his cheek, she slid closer to him and brushed her lips against his.

“Mmmm,” he said without waking up.

She wished she hadn’t been so tired when they arrived. She’d wanted to end the day by making love to him, but she’d crashed out immediately after changing into a knit cami and shorts set she’d found in her suitcase.

Lifting her head slightly off the bed, she saw that it was four in the morning. He probably wouldn’t want to be woken up right now. Besides, she’d never initiated a seduction. Her attempt would most likely be laughable. Still, her core craved physical intimacy in a way she’d never experienced before. She couldn’t tell him she loved him, but she wanted him to know she desired him and cared for him more than any other man.

She pressed her lips against his, gently but harder than a moment ago.

“Mmmm,” he said again. “That’s the second time you’ve kissed me. Do it again, and I’ll think you want to make love.”

New Review!

New Readers

I hope everyone who celebrated Christmas had a great day! I was pleasantly surprised to come back to the internet and find several purchases of my books and a new review!

Thanks to Stacey is Sassy for reviewing Masked Hearts! She’s a frequent commenter here, and I really appreciate her reading my stories and sharing her thoughts on them. She has a blog that you must check out; not only does she do book reviews, but she does fashion. Sometimes she combines books and fashion. It’s a lot of fun!

From her review of Masked Hearts:

Masked Hearts was a sweet story with a little angst. Mark was by far the star of the show with his romantic heart and love for his children. Sienna was definitely sweet, but drove me crazy when she let people manipulate and use her. When she eventually stood up for herself, I saw a turning point in her character and it was definitely for the better.

And good news for readers: I messed up the end date for my sale at All Romance on Masked Hearts and Thankful Hearts. You can still get them each for only $1!!

And be sure to follow my blog for the start of The Beautician and the Billionaire Episode 4: The Past. Or purchase Episode 4 at All Romance and read it now!

Behind her, he saw Raul nod toward the flowers and then disappear down a hall.

Still unsure about giving them to her he said, “Do you like the Ansel Adams?”

She stared straight into his eyes and nodded. “Very much.”

She was too far away. He wanted to cross the room and take her in his arms, but there was still the matter of the salon. His headache had lessened, but he didn’t want to bring up anything about business for fear of bringing the migraine back full blast.

He realized the short conversation had come to a lull, and it was his turn.

Before he could think of something to say, she walked towards the couch and said, “What beautiful flowers. Somehow I didn’t expect to see them in your penthouse. I keep imagining you have a beautiful garden in the Hamptons, but I pictured your apartment, I don’t know, sort of stark. It’s not at all what I expected.”

He smiled and motioned to the flowers. “I picked them for you. The vase is yours too. I thought it best accented the beauty of the gladiolas.”

Charisse’s eyes widened, and she touched her fingertips to the petal of a pink flower. “You picked these? Where did you find a garden? I thought you’d been in bed all weekend.”

His headache ebbed by about ten degrees. He held out his hand and said, “Could I carry the basket for you and I’ll show you where I got the flowers?”

Charisse shifted the basket to her other hand and shook her head. As she spoke, she slipped her hand into his. “No offense, but you don’t look your best. I’ll carry the food. Are you sure you want to go for a walk?”

The contact with her was heaven compared to what he’d been suffering. Why had he ever been worried about her coming over? “It’s not very far. I’d love to show you.”
