Becoming a Romance Heroine: Tattoos

When I think tattoos, I think paranormal romance. But henna tattoos are an indulgence every woman can get to have a little fun. It’s usually a tantalizing design and fades away after a couple of weeks.

My girlfriends and I have gone out to get henna tattoos together a couple of times. It’s a great ladies night out with the added bonus of being a turn on to Lover when he sees the tattoo.

They aren’t that expensive and totally worth the evenings of fun!

Here’s a picture of my publicist’s hand at our last girl’s night out:

Masked Hearts is an erotic romance between a single dad and his son’s kindergarten teacher. The romance begins at the Holiday Cafe where the two meet over their favorite drink: Toil and Trouble with extra cinnamon.

Join them as they tumble through passion and problems and seek out their Happily ever After.

9 | Coffee Break

Sienna jerked around at the squealing tires and saw a black Corvette turning into the Holiday Cafe parking lot. When she recognized Mark as the driver, she wanted to jump into her own car to get away. But she just stared instead. She didn’t want to go over to Carol’s house and eat lunch with her and Glen. Already her heart ached over how many times she and Glen had done that while they were engaged.

Mark pulled his car into a spot right in front of her. The cafe was fairly empty still—Chloe wasn’t even at work yet. Maybe she had Sunday off. Sienna clutched her Toil and Trouble to her chest as Mark hopped out of his car. “Hey,” he said, “I thought you sang in the choir.”

She wanted to laugh at herself for thinking he’d say something like, “That was a great fuck last night.” Of course he’d be more civil than that. And he’d better not mention last night at all. And if he did, he’d better say it was great.

She said, “We sing at the earlier service. The service going on now is contemporary, with a rock band and everything.”

He seemed to be suppressing a laugh. “Naturally, you go to the traditional service.”

She knew it was a reference to how he saw her as a paradox, but she chose to ignore it. It verged on talking about last night. “Did you come by for a Sunday morning coffee?”

“No. I had to go have a fight with my ex-wife. I was on my way home when I saw you pacing here. Is there a reason you’re outside? It’s pretty cold this morning.”

“It seems to be a day for exes. I’m supposed to go have lunch with mine and his mom.”

“That sounds awful. Why don’t you join me inside?”

Sienna held her breath. It shouldn’t be so strange since they’d talked in the cafe for a couple hours yesterday, but that was before they’d screwed like two strangers at a rave. And before he’d given her a rose and a card. “Just for a little bit.”

Becoming a Romance Heroine: Hair

I have super thick hair that I used to keep short. And then for awhile, I didn’t do anything with it at all. What kind of romance heroine doesn’t tend to her hair?

But last year at a charity girls night out event, I met a hairdresser who is awesome. So I’m giving her and the hair salon a shout out today. If you live in Albuquerque, NM you must try D’Ambrosio Designs Hair Studio. My hair dresser is Natalie Ramirez. When I first went to her, my hair was a disaster, but after a year of regular care my natural waves are a plus rather than a hindrance, and it feels oh so soft. I love the way my hair feels now.

The owner of the salon Marcus D’Ambrosio runs a great business. His stylists are always punctual, but if you get there early for your appointment, you can enjoy a variety of coffee–always important!

This picture is a few weeks after my most recent haircut–still soft and wavy!

Indulge yourself at a salon this weekend, and if you live in ABQ check out D’Ambrosio. You’ll be very glad you did!

Becoming a Romance Heroine: Nails

In Corporate Fire, Grace is OCD and can’t stand to have even one fingernail with chipped polish:

Grace noticed the chip in the “sassy red” nail polish on her index finger as she removed the bicycle clips from her pants. The compulsion to slam her hand on the elevator’s emergency stop button pulsed all the way to her fist, but she clenched it at her side—the bells would draw too much attention. She’d ride to her floor, wait for the door to open and close and go back down. It’d only take what, another half hour to bike back to her apartment? Then she’d be late.

I’m not at her level of obsession, but I have been enjoying doing my nails in different ways recently. This weekend I had fun with stickers! Nail stickers are an easy way to make your nails pop. I’ve had lots of compliments on them, and I felt extra attractive on my date because of them.

Back to Work Coffee Frappe

Did you guys get addicted to half price frappuccinos at Starbucks Happy Hours last week? I know I did.

But an even cheaper way to add zest to your day is to make one yourself! They keep well in thermoses too if you want to make it in the morning and save it for later. On days I’m blue, I like to pour them into fancy glass for an extra pick me up:

IMG_1594[1]Recipe:

1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
1 packet Starbucks Via Iced Caramel Coffee
1-1 1/2 cups ice

Place water, milk and Via mix in blender. Blend for a few seconds. Add ice. Put blender on ice crusher mode until smooth. Enjoy!

Cheers!

Elegant Treat

This weekend my lover made an elegant treat for me that I wanted to be sure to pass on to you: red sparkling wine over berries. Though the sparkling wine is good, the best part is eating the berries when the drink is gone. Delicious and romantic!
