When Charisse turned off the water he said, “It must’ve been hard to get this place started. I like the hint of Versailles. Do you have a partner?” he asked.

She smiled when he talked of Versailles. She’d tried to model the studio after it, but no one had ever noticed before. Continue reading

Marie made a strangled sound like a cat choking. Charisse’s defense of her sister switched like lightning to mortification over insulting a client. She didn’t dare glance around the salon. She was sure everyone gaped at her. “I’m so sorry Mr. Grishin. Women all over love this cut on men. It’s only me. I’m sure Marie’s right—you must have the best stylist in New York.” Continue reading

It was as if everyone in the salon took a collective breath when he said he wanted to talk to Charisse and not Marie. But Charisse didn’t hear it because the way he spoke her name was how she imagined a Frenchman would whisper in his lover’s ear.

Marie broke the spell by saying, “Charisse? What does she have to do with anything?”

“Your father said she’d give me a good haircut.”

It was only because of her experience that Charisse didn’t drop the scissors right on top of Tanya’s head. She managed to put them in the pocket of her apron before turning around.

Oh. My. God. By all the kings of France, he was handsome. Continue reading

A coffee aroma mingled seductively with the vanilla scents of the shampoos and conditioners used in Ma Charisse. Massaging shampoo into the scalp of a customer, Charisse drew in a quiet breath and added, “I know, right?”

“I mean how could she possibly think taking my husband’s Ferrari for a joyride like she was in freaking Ferris Bueller’s Day Off would be a good idea?” said Tanya, flailing her crimson nails in the air like little flashes of anger.

“I can’t believe she would even try something like that. Last year she was such a good student.”

“Right? Never have children. They’ll only make you crazy.”

One of my favorite parts of publishing a new story is the cover reveal. I love getting a new cover and seeing what the artist has done with my ideas. Chiarra Giradelli at The Book Cover Designer created the cover for The Beautician and the Billionaire. I hope you love it as much as me!

Here it is:

Back from Puerto Rico

I’ve been back from Puerto Rico for awhile, but I got home and immediately started working on a new project. The trip was for a much needed recharge, so success!!

But I feel bad not posting pictures of my awesome trip:

The view from our room. I still wish I was waking to the sound of ocean waves.

Puerto Rico: Clothes!

I went shopping tonight for some new clothes for the trip. Surprisingly, Target had better dressing room lighting than Kohls. The lighting in Kohls showed every flaw on my skin, which in a swimsuit is harsh! Target’s lighting was much more diffuse and therefore more forgiving.

What clothes retailers need to do is go to casino bathrooms and figure out how they do their lights. Because I look awesome in the mirrors of casino bathrooms. I used to think it was the three coffee and Baileys that I already had, but I went in one time totally sober, and I still looked good. We need to start a movement for casino lighting in fitting rooms.

But I digress. Here are my findings! I’m going to Puerto Rico!
