The Beautician and the Billionaire 7: Scene 12

Good morning! There’s been a slight schedule change. My editor and I decided last night that Episode 8 should be split into two episodes. Episode 8: The Party will come out next week as scheduled, and the final episode will come out in May along with Nails for a Billionaire. Which Means Shifting Into Love and Through the Painting won’t be coming out until June and July.

I’m actually pleased that my planning was only off by one episode! Please look forward to the future releases!

Conor closed the black velvet jewelry case and slipped it into his coat pocket. Perfect. Now he had to figure out the best time to give it to Charisse. Continue reading

The Beautician and the Billionaire 7: Scene 8c

Have a great weekend!

His phone buzzed, and he pulled it out of his pocket. Charisse.

“I discovered a tree where you tied a bouquet. I’m sure they were lovely when you first picked them.”

Even though he was sitting, dizziness overtook him. He thought he might fall out of his chair. He put the phone next to the coffee and gripped the edges of the table with both hands. She’d found where Elise had died. How much did she know? Had Raul told her about Elise? She said she’d “discovered” it so maybe not.

He let go of the table and stared at Gianna as she wrapped silverware in napkins. He had to convince her to come back and reunite with her daughter. Then Charisse would be more open and understanding of what happened with Elise. They could move on with their lives as a couple.

Gianna looked up. At first she seemed surprised to find him staring at her, but then she glared.

Fuck. That was not what he wanted.

He looked away, but it was too late. She marched toward his table.

Soon she stood in front of him with her hands on her hips. She said, “You flatter me Mr. New York hot shot with your wistful glances and coming in here for the past two days, but I’m old enough to be your mother and not on the hunt like a cougar.”

Conor wanted to laugh. She may look like Charisse, but she spoke like Marie. He knew the wrong word would blow up the situation. He forced himself to smile and wished her eyes weren’t so much like Charisse’s.

“I’m not here to ask you out,” he said.

Gianna frowned. “But you’re here for some reason other than my amazing coffee.”

He nodded to the empty chair across from him, deciding it was now or never. “I’d really like it if you joined me. Do you have a minute?”

She twisted a strand of curls without answering and walked away. He watched her pour herself a cup of coffee and then return. When she sat down, she said, “Did Roy send you?”

“Oh, God no,” he said without ceremony.

She drew her eyebrows together and wrapped her fingers around the coffee mug. “But you must know him if that’s your reaction.”

He decided he should just cut straight to it. “I’ve been seeing Charisse.”

Gianna’s face paled. “Did something happen to her? Is she okay?”

“She’s fine. She doesn’t even know I’m here.”

“She shouldn’t even know I live here.” Her voice sounded sharp.

“She doesn’t. I hired a private investigator…”

Gianna jumped up. “Get out!” Her next words were in Spanish.

Conor held his hand up. “Please, I’d just like to talk. I don’t know why you left, but I think…”

“It’s none of your business why I left. You go back to New York and forget about me. I am not your business.”

A large man with a white apron on came running out of the kitchen. He shouted in Spanish.

Conor stood up. “It’s not my business, but it’s Charisse’s.”

“Did she send you here? Did she try to find me?”

“No, but…”

“Then go home. I want nothing to do with you.”

Conor stared at her a moment before he turned and stormed out of the cafe. This fucking family. None of them made anything easy.

Outside he turned and walked back towards the beach. The resort he was staying at wasn’t far, but he didn’t want to go there. He kicked up sand as he kept marching towards the water. He should’ve fucking brought Raul. Everything would’ve gone differently then.

He should’ve brought Charisse out here and “accidentally” found the coffee shop. He’d intended on bringing her to the resort he was at anyway. It would’ve been easy.

Fuck. This was not going to be his grand gesture to show Charisse he cared about her.

He stared at the ocean for what seemed like forever. People past in front and behind him. He hated being here without her. He always hated being apart from her. He’d go home and talk to her, really talk to her. Like he should’ve done before they made the deal.

The Beautician and the Billionaire 7: Scene 8

Yesterday Conor went to Charisse’s room in the middle of the night. I won’t be posting the scene because of the sexy sex. You can read it at:

I will start at the end of the chapter you missed. Enjoy!

Charisse woke up sore and frustrated. When she slipped the sheet aside, she saw small bruises where Conor’s fingers had dug into her thighs. Worth it, except that he wasn’t with her.

She sat up and glanced around the room, hoping for a sign of him. On the nightstand were two envelopes addressed to her: one in Raul’s handwriting and one in Conor’s. She grabbed the one from Conor first.

Dear Charisse,

I’ve wanted to bring you here since I first saw you, but it was a mistake. I have too much past here. I need to sort out my thoughts. The house and cars are yours while I’m gone. Raul will get you whatever you need. On Monday a therapist will arrive to talk to you as well as a personal trainer. You said you took yoga, and I didn’t want you to miss too many classes. Becca’s party is Saturday. I’m having Raul give you an invitation. I need you there with me. And then Puerto Rico.

Conor stared into the darkness. Charisse had opened his door only to close it again and leave a couple hours earlier. He couldn’t blame her. She wasn’t a mind reader. He’d wanted to invite her in, but he hadn’t even been able to look at her. It wasn’t because of his headache—that was subsiding. He couldn’t bear to see fear in her eyes. He wasn’t a murderer, and he’d never hit her like that ass-hat Josh. But her expression at the banquet had said she thought otherwise. Continue reading

Conor’s Hamptons dining room fascinated Charisse. Without even thinking about it, she sat with a straight back in the white leather dining room chair with gold spindly legs. Above the long mahagony table hung three flower like chandeliers that had to be designed by Chihuly. The vibrantly colored glass glowed softly at the tips, giving off a minimal amount of light. A mural had been painted on the wall she faced. It had flowers in the same clustered style as the chandeliers with vines twisting around to connect the bouquets. She had no idea who the artist was. A couple hours later they pulled into a private drive. Wind rocked the car, but the rain had stopped, leaving a fog over everything. She didn’t know how Raul was driving now that there were no lights except the car’s. The privacy glass blocked her from Conor like the fog blocked the view. She wanted to be with him and ease his migraine. They needed to fix the fractures in their relationship before they grew into fissures. Continue reading

Now, on to the first scene of The Mansion:

Charisse wanted to blast the stereo in the car. The silence between her and Raul seemed louder than the wind howling outside and the rain hitting the windows. She knew why Conor was mad, but she had no idea what was wrong with Raul. Continue reading

Please enjoy the end of Episode 6!

Charisse wanted to leave. She could call Marie tomorrow and catch up about Armand, but her father pulled her away from Conor like the wind carrying a leaf.

“Daddy, everything went well at the banquet. I don’t want to press my luck.”

Her father didn’t answer. He kept pulling her through the crowd. At last, he pushed her into a chair at one of the tables, grabbed a glass of wine off a waiter’s tray and put it down in front of Charisse.

Roy stayed standing and said, “Charisse, this is Dale. He’s done some investigating for me, and I want you to hear him out.”

“Investigating? Into what? I just want to leave.”

The man in the chair next to her was about her father’s age and only a little less round. He put his hand on her arm. “It’s okay. Your father’s just trying to protect you.”

Charisse shoved her chair away, yanking her arm from his grasp. “I don’t need protection.”

Where had all this been when Josh was hitting her? She’d never told anyone, but at least Marie had suspected. A glance at the head table showed Conor deep in conversation with Becca. It was obvious she wasn’t going anywhere for a while. Remembering her father had been the one to get rid of Josh, she tried to relax and listen.

“How long have you been dating Conor Grishin?” asked Dale.

“That’s none of your business.”

Roy sat down and said, “For Christ’s sake, we’re just trying to help.”

“I don’t need help when it comes to Conor.”

“Has he told you how his wife died?” asked the investigator.

Something flashed through her mind. Daddy had mentioned Conor’s wife earlier at the salon. “No, it hasn’t come up. I can tell he’s still recovering from it.”

“Lower your voice,” her father urged the man. “I just want Charisse to hear this, not the whole room.”

“Sorry,” Dale whispered. “She died in a zip line ‘accident’. Conor paid off a reporter who overheard the police say they were investigating it as a murder.”

Several scenes flashed through her mind. Oddly, Josh punching her eye was the first one, followed by Conor cradling her in his arms.

“And what did the police decide?” She heard herself ask the question in a faint voice.

“They decided it was a tragic accident. But Conor paid off the reporter. I’m sure he had plenty for the police as well.”

“Did you find it?”

“Excuse me?” asked Dale.

“Did you find evidence of Conor paying off the police?”

“No, but I talked to his wife’s sister tonight.” He leaned in further and lowered his voice to where she could barely hear. “Becca says Elise wanted a divorce. She thinks Conor murdered her instead.”

Charisse shoved her chair back and stood up. She stormed through the banquet hall, away from her father’s pleas for her to stay. She needed to get out of the hotel. She felt like there was no air. All the people in the room had stolen the oxygen from her. Guests blocked her way, but she pushed through and out the door into the hallway.

Josh had been so smooth and nice when they first met but turned into a rat bastard later. Conor had been a rat bastard to begin with but had turned kind and thoughtful when they’d been alone together. Had the request for a divorce driven Conor to murder the way she’d driven Josh to hit her?

She rushed down the hall in her gold heels. Maybe Raul was already outside, waiting with the car. Maybe she could talk to him. Raul wouldn’t work for someone he thought was a murderer.

“Charisse!” Conor’s voice echoed through the hallway.

She stopped, turned and tripped on her gown, landing on the floor. Conor jogged to her and lifted her to her feet.

His sapphire eyes were bloodshot, and she wasn’t sure if he was holding her up or she was propping him up. “Why are you running away? I was just about to come get you.”

“I was going to wait for you in the car. I wanted to talk to Raul.”

He frowned. “Becca said you and Roy were talking with a private investigator.”

“We were.” She stared at him, wanting to trust him. But she thought of all the times she’d had poor judgment.

He stood up straighter and gripped her arm in anger rather than as a crutch. “I see. I assume Roy wanted you to know you were dating a possible murderer.”

“Yes, but I didn’t want to believe any of it. That’s why I wanted to talk to Raul.”

“Why not me?”

“Because I’m a terrible judge of character.”

Conor stepped forward and dragged her behind him.

“Ow, you’re hurting me. Where are we going?”

“You’re still mine. We’re going wherever I want.”

He loosened his grip to where it didn’t hurt anymore, but she wouldn’t be able to get away. She could make a scene and attract enough attention that she might be able to make a break for it, but she didn’t want to. Becca was a bitch, and she didn’t know anything about Dale.

She needed quiet. She needed time by herself and time alone with Conor. His words from earlier that night echoed through her head. “And if you’d told me you were in pain or sick, I would’ve gotten you to the hospital right away.”

Their footsteps rang through the empty lobby. She needed to say something to him to defuse his anger, but her emotions jumbled her brain. He pushed the doors open, and a gust of wind whipped back her hair, chilling her skin.

“Is everything all right, sir?” said Raul from the car.

“I have a migraine,” said Conor. “Charisse will be sitting in the front with you. Take us to the Hamptons, where I allegedly killed my wife.”
